Devoted to forget me knots
May 2024
How can you resist the dusky, billowing blue haze of forget me knots. Set adrift by clusters of seeds, this plant delights us with its delicate beauty in the cracks of urban landscapes and in our parks, allotments and gardens.
It shakes off winter effortlessly to delight us with an abundance of small flowers, the softest of blues tinged with a yellow centre which is now at its best.
It’s a great time to sow seeds for next year, just sow directly into the soil or if you're lucky enough to have them already, simply leave them to set seed! If you want to make space for other plants, after seed heads emerge pull them up and shake them to release the seed where you wish them to flower next year.
Steeped in symbolism, it’s a flower that represents true love but it’s also known as Myosotis scorpioides scorpion grass because of its spiralling curvature once it sets to seed.
